switch an example tab from money to karma

what it does

an account that doesn’t interrupt the ride.

tabs brings together the accounts between people sharing a ride. the cost is split among the people who were there and recorded for later. revisit it when it makes sense, without turning every seat into a fare or every arrival into an awkward conversation.

tabs

step by step

  1. share the ride

the ride leaves a record between the people who shared it. see who the account is with and what it relates to. no need to reach for a calculator as everyone gets out.

  2. choose what works for you

keep the account in money or agree on karma: coffee, a drink, a favour or your own way of returning it. an agreement works when the people involved understand it the same way.

  3. settle when it suits you

you make the payment yourselves using whichever method you prefer. naiss takes no fee on accounts between friends. the tab helps keep track of what is outstanding and what you have resolved.

a closer look

what you owe and what you’re owed

an account you need to pay is different from one someone needs to pay you. tabs keeps both sides visible so you can understand where things stand without adding up messages and scattered notes.

karma is an agreement too

sometimes you take turns treating each other or return a favour instead. karma gives that agreement a name. it doesn’t change your sparkie balance: accounts between people and certification rewards are separate.

forgiven means resolved

if you are the person owed money, you can forgive the account. it stays recorded as forgiven and stops counting as debt. this cannot be undone from the app, so make sure it is what you intend.

how much do i charge my friends?

you don't charge them anything. naiss notes what the trip cost and splits it between the people who were in the car. you never have to price anything or say a number out loud.

what tabs are
do i have to settle every trip?

no, and that's the point. normally it builds up and you settle when it suits you, like a tricount.

what tabs are
why is it more than i spent on fuel?

because a trip costs more than fuel. the car wears out, it needs maintaining, and it loses value with every km. that's your money too, even if you don't pay it that day.

how the cost is worked out
can i change the amount?

on a gps-tracked trip, no: naiss works it out and it stays fixed, so nobody has to argue about it. on a naiss shot you set it and edit it yourself.

how the cost is worked out
is karma real money?

no. it's a way of saying it's settled between you. naiss moves neither money nor karma, it just keeps the tally.

karma
can i use karma with some friends and money with others?

yes. karma only applies to people you've put in a group. with everyone else the tab stays in euros.

karma
do they find out i forgave them?

yes, the tab shows as forgiven on their side too. it isn't something that happens silently.

forgiving a tab

less “i’ll send it later”. more reasons to ride together.
